Are Argetinos arrogant or not?

Posted in Argentina forum

I know this sounds kind of stupid - but in Brazil Argetinians are actually famous for being quite arrogant. Now this might be a prejudice, but I would really like to know how those of you that are living in Argentina see it. Is it true or not?

I think that most other Latin Americans do get the impression that Argentinians are arrogant because, well, they are ...

Most of them think that they are better because they are more 'European' than the other countries in South America, and many Argentinians have a xenophobic streak, especially towards Paraguayans, Peruvians and Bolivians. Basically, they consider themselves to be the most beautiful, most cultured people of South America.

I get the impression that they also have some resentment towards Brazilians and Chileans because of how those countries have become more prosperous in recent years, while Argentina has suffered economically.

Doesn't anyone have a different opinion?

I've been to BA and different places throughout Argentina and Chile. Even though, I have found differences between the two peoples, I haven't seen arrogance in either. Everyone seems to have been very nice to us and very accommodating. The only problems I think we had were that we are not Spanish speakers and there were some miscues but, other than that, I really like the countries and am looking forward to visiting Brazil someday.
