Hi
Ive just landed on this site hoping somebody in the Azores can help me with this its a bit bizzare but bear with me .
Approaching the end of 1942 there was a ship lost to the north of the islands called Hms Fidelity lost with all hands 399 men and 1 woman .There was a awful lot of mystery around this ship its Captain and his lady friend and the crew .A unknown airman was recovered .When this was is unknown the body is on Terecia in the Commonwealth war graves cemetery there .Since Portugal was neutral during WW2 and wasn't subject to news restrictions .. it would be a news worthy event .Could some kind soul in the Azores who has a good command of reading Portagese look for me in the news archives last week in December 1942 too early 1943.I know its a big ask but it would be greatly appreciated my dads cousin was lost on the ship his great niece is still with us .Her mother always said if he hadn't changed ships he'd still be alive

Your story is pretty interesting. I recently read an article about the USS Scorpion that was lost in the late 60's and was discovered near the Azores. The remains of the Scorpion are reportedly resting on a sandy seabed at 32°54.9′N 33°08.89′W in the North Atlantic Ocean. The wreck lies at a depth of 3,000 m (9,800 ft) approximately 400 nmi (740 km) southwest of the Azores on the eastern edge of the Sargasso Sea.
