Studying and living in Russia

Posted in Russia forum

Hi! I'm thinking about spending a semester abroad. I think studying in Russia would be something totally different, as most people go to Spain or Australia or something.
So, how is the student life in Russia? Are there some good universities and international students as well?

Hi! All the feedbacks of our students prove that they improved their language level during their semester at our school, because they lived in the Russian host families and communicated with them and with new Russian friends in Russian round the clock. We provide full immersion into the language and culture. Also people like that our school is located near the border with EU, and it takes 3-4 hours to get to Finland, so our students are not afraid "to be all alone in the middle of Russia, where bears walk along the streets")))

Hi! I did my whole bachelors degree in Commerce in Russia. You must know russian education is not he best, of course there are some great university, but in general it is not so good in terms of content.
Now, to do just one semester is a great idea, but know that is more what you gain on the experience outside the classroom than in it. There are a lot universities that have agreements with european institutions for student exchanges, there is also the erasmus program. You can look for the ones that offer a semester in english (they do exist), or you're gonna have to do the one year russian course prior (which i guess is not such a good idea for you)
You will meet great people, you will have great experiences, you will have fun, you will see yourself in a different and exciting world where you know many things are so wrong but yet you find it so fascinating. In fact in this facebook group are some things about life in Russia as a student http://www.facebook.com/groups/36055602027/

    Anyway, best wishes!

It IS a good idea, Jószua! But first it's reasonable to improve your Russian language level! For that you may take a short term- course in a Russian language school. Our Russian language school "Enjoy Russian" is situated in Petrozavodsk, Karelia, a small beautiful town near the state border with the EU so there won't be any difficulties in reaching the destination. We offer the number of language courses for 2010. The programs may vary according to your wishes and Russian proficiency level and implies cultural involvement as well. During the studies every student lives in a russian family.
By the way, you have a great chance to win the scholarship for studying in our school in summer that will cover the cost of the tuition fee.

Moreover, there is the option to check your Russian right here and right now - pass the online test! More info at http://enjoyrussian.com
