Queen Kong: Radical Jewish Music
Hermann's Jazz Club
753 View Street, Victoria, British Columbia V8W 1J9, Canada Map
Queen Kong’s aim is to push the boundaries of what can be considered Jewish/Klezmer music by combining traditional sounds with funk, improv, and jazz sensibilities. The results are melodies that are familiar and new, harmonies that take the listener on a trip from the sacred to the profane and compositions that are contemplative, complex and groovy as hell. Thier debut recording, "Fray" was released internationally in May '22 and was nominated as Performing Artist of the Year by the Ontario Folk concert, as well as "Instrumental Band of the Year" and "Composer of the Year" by the Canadian Folk Music Association for 2024. "Fray" was lauded by the Vancouver Sun as "Five new albums from women musicians you need to hear". Queen Kong is Lorie Wolf- Drums, Max Forster-Trumpet, John Williams - Clarinet, Nathan Dell-Vandenberg - Trombone, Graham Campbell - Guitar and Tom Richards-Sousaphone
