Chopin Project Concert Series: Debussy's Friends & Enemies
World-renowned pianist Matthew Graybil's whimsical program showcases Chopin and the the life, music and wit of Claude Debussy.
In this performance, musical friend and foe are pitted against one another in a program highlighting many musical styles and periods, enlivened by Debussy's cunning, caustic and often amusing commentary on his musical idols, contemporaries, and adversaries. It will also showcase the scope of his influences, in which Chopin is prominently featured.
Praised by The New Yorker as an “exceptional young artist” and by The Southampton Press as “hypnotic and compelling,” American pianist Matthew Graybil has performed as a recitalist, concerto soloist and chamber musician throughout the U.S., Canada, France, Holland, and Mexico. He made his orchestral debut at age 14 with Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 and has subsequently performed with the Fort Worth Symphony and the National Chamber Players. He completed the Master’s program at Juilliard and debuted his first album in 2012 featuring the works of Brahms and Schubert. Graybil’s second album, Chopin’s Etudes, Op. 10 has also been released on The Chopin Project label.
